Edmond Chiropractors: Relieving headaches

Edmond Chiropractors talks about relieving headaches

According to the American Chiropractic Association, nine out of ten Americans suffer from headaches. Here with the Edmond Chiropractors we’ve seen multiple patients that have suffered from Chronic or very common headaches. Headaches feel like pain, dull or sharp. Specifically, they can be in any region of the head on one or both sides.

Like we said, a headache pain can take many forms. The pain can be sharp or dull, throbbing or constant. We’ve had patients say the headaches can seem to come on slowly while other times it can come all at once. Here’s the thing though, a headache is not actually about pain in your brain. Rather, it’s your brain’s way to tell you another part of your body hurts, a part that can’t feel pain itself. This pain manifests in your brain.

In truth, most headaches occur in the nerves, muscles, and blood vessels that cover most of your head and neck. Our Edmond Chiropractors have seen patients who say their headaches last for several hours while others have said they could last for several days. Like most pain, the go-to “quick fix” for most is to reach for a bottle of aspirin or some other pain relief medication.

The thing about trying to cover up this pain with medication is that your headaches will eventually just come back because you’re not treating the causes of the pain. Eventually, one or two pills won’t take care the pain anymore. Eventually, you may find yourself taking more and more medication to help keep the pain at bay. What if there was a better way? Often times, our patients feel instant relief from just getting a spinal adjustment by our Edmond Chiropractors.

Our Edmond chiropractors love to see people walk away with a feeling of improved well-being. If you could stop having ongoing headaches, would you do it? If you would like to know more or want to schedule your appointment please give us a call @ 405-285-7325.

Edmond Chiropractor Provides Workspace Improvement Tips For Spinal Health

Edmond Chiropractor: Improved Workspace = Improved You!

It’s officially “back-to-school” time and that means more time sitting at a desk for many students. In the previous post our Edmond chiropractor talked about how poor posture can have some negative side effects. Today, we’re following that up with ways that you can improve your workspace whether that be at home, in the library, or wherever you find yourself studying or sitting for long periods of time.

Remember, posture is important for a healthy spine and a healthy body overall so here are some tips from our Edmond chiropractor:

1.) Choose The Right Chair: Choosing the right chair to maintain proper posture will allow you to sit without pain. A lot of the chairs are adjustable to accommodate the height difference for many types of people. Of course, sitting up straight with your spine to the back of the chair is important, but also think about how sitting too low or too high can impact your arms and wrist. If your wrists are bent awkwardly for too long it can increase risks of carpal tunnel. Furthermore, elbows should sit comfortably along the sides of your body and your shoulders should be relaxed.

2.) Adjust The Computer Screen: If you’re working at a computer station, most of the time you’ll have the ability to raise or lower the screen to meet your eye level. This is the optimal viewing level to avoid tilting your head and neck too far downward while completing tasks. If you have a laptop computer, try elevating the screen by placing a stack on books under it or consider purchasing a laptop stand.

3.) Take Short Breaks Often: Allow yourself the space and time to be able to get up and stretch in between cram sessions or projects. As time ticks by it’s possible to forget about your posture and inadvertently start slouching. Getting up occasionally will prevent you from becoming too stiff or from sitting in an incorrect position for too long. Try walking around for just a minute (even if it’s just a bathroom break or a drink break), shaking and stretching your limbs, squeezing your shoulder blades back and forth to loosen up, and taking deep breaths.

Of course, our Edmond chiropractor hopes that these 3 tips will help you improve your workspace and improve your spinal health!

As always, our Edmond chiropractor is also available to help you maintain proper posture through regular spinal adjustments. If you’d like to make an appointment with our Edmond chiropractor, please give us a call at 405-285-7325.

Edmond Chiropractor Explains How Poor Posture Poses Problems

Edmond Chiropractor: How Posture Makes A Difference

As we head into the month of August there will be an increased number of people changing the way they sit or stand. Due to school starting again teachers will have to stand for long periods of time and students will be sitting behind a desk for hours. As many people find themselves spending more time in a chair or being on their feet for long hours, posture is definitely something worthy of consideration. Today, our Edmond chiropractor is here to share how poor posture poses problems.

A little slouching could do a potentially large amount of damage overtime. Likewise, never taking a break from standing can create some terrible problems. Here’s a few things our Edmond chiropractor would like you to keep in mind:

  • When standing long periods of time the goal is to avoid exaggerating the curves of the neck, upper back, and lower back. Studies show that when you lean forward 60 degrees it places increased stress on your neck which can lead to numbness, pain, and pinched nerves. It’s important to keep your head level over your shoulders, your chin parallel to the floor, and your neck straight. Additionally, your shoulders should not slump.
  • Sitting with legs crossed can cut off the circulation in your body, increasing the pressure and even causing spider veins. Slouching is also a bad habit for people who sit too long. This can create problems with breathing which strains the lungs and makes the heart work harder to provide enough blood for oxygen. It’s important to stand up and stretch those legs every once in a while. When you sit back down try to keep your back straight and maintain proper alignment of the head, neck, and shoulders.

As you may understand, poor posture can strain both muscles and ligaments, making you more vulnerable to injury. Aside from following the little tips our Edmond chiropractor has provided for you, another natural way to correct or maintain posture is through ongoing chiropractic care. Our Edmond chiropractor would be happy to show you how posture makes a difference!

Making Time To See Our Edmond Chiropractor

Edmond Chiropractor: Offers Time-Saving Tips

It’s summer time and you’d like to think that means your busy schedule just got a little less busy, but the truth is you’re probably still planning just as many “to-do’s”, right? It can be overwhelming to have such a busy life and know that your poor, aching body is need of chiropractic care, but not know just how to fit in seeing our Edmond chiropractor. That’s why, today, we’re going to offer some friendly time-saving tips to help you get more organized this summer.

1.) Sync Family Calendars: The problem? Coordinating family schedules! It is a headache and can often be the reason you just can’t seem to work in a time for yourself to visit our Edmond chiropractor. The solution is simple.

You can either go back to an old-school method by placing one giant calendar on your refrigerator OR get digital with it (most likely as everything else in your life already is) and sync your phone calendars up with the members of your family. If you’re an iPhone user this is easy to do; simply launch the calendar app, enable and set up Family Sharing.

2.) Prepare Healthy Meals In Advance: Scrambling around the kitchen after a long day of activities can often make you want to throw together foods that are simple, but aren’t necessarily the healthiest for your body. Finding healthy recipes that your whole family will like is the first step to eliminating some time constraints. The second step is taking one day (like Sunday, for example) to prepare healthy dinner meals for the whole week.

3.) Create An Evening Routine: Waking up and being an adult in the morning or early afternoon (if you sleep in) is tough enough on most summer days. So, instead of running around trying to accomplish every little task first thing upon waking up, set aside 15-20 minutes prior to bedtime to check some tasks off of your list. This will free up your days and make you feel a lot better.

Shaving off a few minutes here and there by becoming more organized can certainly free up time for you to take better care of your body overall! That means making time to visit our Edmond chiropractor when your spine is in great need. Don’t delay if you have neck or back pain. Let our Edmond chiropractor get your adjusted!

Edmond Chiropractor- TMJ Disorders

Straightening Out TMJ Disorders By Visiting An Edmond Chiropractor

Edmond Chiropractor: Correcting Misalignments In The Jaw And Neck

The temporomandibular joint, also known simply as TMJ, connects your jawbone to your skull like a sliding hinge. There is one joint on each side of your jaw. Sometimes, the TMJ can become misaligned on one side which refers to a TMJ disorder. This type of disorder tends to cause pain in your jaw joint and in the muscles that control your jaw movement. It’s common for people who experience TMJ disorders to think they need assistance from a surgeon, an oral surgeon, or a dentist, but truthfully our Edmond chiropractor can often help with this problem!

Sometimes, it can be difficult for patients of our Edmond chiropractor to determine if the pain they’re feeling truly is a problem with TMJ before they decide to come visit us. To help you decide if you might be experiencing some symptoms of TMJ, here’s a few questions to ask yourself:

  • Do you feel facial pain when opening your mouth?
  • Does your jaw make a popping noise when your mouth is stretched open (like when you yawn)?
  • Do you feel pain while chewing food?
  • Does your joint lock, making it difficult to open or close your mouth?
  • Do you feel an aching pain in or around your ear?
  • Do you feel as though your jaw hinges incorrectly at times?

If you answered yes to any of the above questions then there is a chance you have a TMJ disorder. The pain caused by TMJ disorders often corresponds with the upper neck and jaw being in misalignment, but that is generally a very easy fix for our Edmond chiropractor without the use of drugs or surgery of any kind. With adjustments to correct the alignment, the pressure is relieved from the nerve and jaw pain ceases.

Edmond Chiropractor Tip: Stretch To Support Your Adjustment

Edmond Chiropractor Talks About Maintaining Adjustments

When you come in to see our Edmond chiropractor, he’ll take his time getting to know you and what your body needs. Although several treatments may be recommended, it’s ultimately up to you how you go about supporting the adjustment after you leave the office. After the adjustments are completed there is something simple you can do to help support or maintain your adjustment longer.

Before doing anything too crazy, just take a little time to allow your body to get used to the new adjustment. Don’t overexert yourself by exercising or lifting heavy objects for at least a few hours following your appointment. This will help you to avoid putting any unnecessary strain on your spine.

Of course, once you’ve allowed your body to “settle” into the new adjustment it’s perfectly ok to stretch. In fact, that is one of the simplest ways that you can do to help maintain your adjustment. This is especially true if you sit at a desk job all day. Sitting for long periods of time can cause a lot of strain on the lower back so be sure to take a break from sitting once every 20 or 30 minutes.

To help reduce pain and increase mobility in between adjustments do simple stretches without twisting. Here are 3 stretches that may help:

1.) Corner Wall Back Stretch: Stand facing the corner of a room with your palms facing the wall and elbows slightly below shoulder height. Place each hand and forearm on each side of the corner and push yourself towards it as if to complete a push-up. Hold this stretch for at least 20-30 seconds.

2.) Standing Quadriceps Stretch: Stand on one foot and bend the other behind you, grabbing your foot and pulling it in towards your buttocks. Hold this for at least 20-30 seconds and switch to other leg.

3.) Standing Towel Neck Stretch: Place one end of a towel on the ground and step on it with your left foot. With your arm to your side, grab the other end of the towel with your left hand. Slightly pull the towel up with the left hand and tilt your neck to the opposite shoulder. Hold this stretch for 20-30 seconds and release. Repeat the process 3 times on each side.

Our Edmond chiropractor hopes that this has been an informative blog for you, today. If you have any questions or concerns about chiropractic treatment feel free to call our Edmond chiropractor at 405-285-7325. Our Edmond chiropractor or someone on the staff will be willing to answer your questions or get you scheduled for an appointment.

Edmond chiropractor- Asthma

Visiting An Edmond Chiropractor For Asthma

Edmond Chiropractor: Helping others breathe easy

According to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America about fifteen million Americans have Asthma. Treatment usually works well to ease and prevent symptoms and it is usually treated with daily inhalers. Asthma is an inflammation and obstruction of the passages that allow air to enter and leave the lungs (bronchial tubes). Something some people don’t think about is the way your neck, spine and ribs can also play a role in how well you can breathe. Think about it like this; the spinal column, the nervous system and the respiratory system have an intermingling relationship. For this reason, you may be amazed to learn that some patients are visiting an Edmond chiropractor to seek ongoing treatment for their Asthma.

Sometimes even the most subtle turn the wrong way can cause rib bones to pop out of their normal place. Imagine all the commotion when an Asthma attack takes place! In addition to the lungs being affected by misplaced ribs, neck muscles can also play an important role. When one or more of the bones of your spine (vertebrae) move out of position, they can create pressure on spinal nerves. This pressure has the ability to irritate the nerves. As a result, the neck can become tight causing the normal flow of the lymphatic system (which helps our immune system to function normally) to fail. How does one get over this?

Well, the truth is that only on rare occasions does a person “outgrow” Asthma. As for the rest of the population suffering chronically from Asthma symptoms, an Edmond chiropractor can help. This is in no way to say that you should ever abandon all other methods if you have severe Asthma, but our Edmond chiropractor team does take pride in being able to help areas of the spine, neck and ribs. Our Edmond chiropractor team is certified and familiar with adjustments from head to toe. Some patients reveal that Asthma attacks seem to be less severe and less frequent with regular care.

Release Pinched Nerves By Visiting Edmond Chiropractors

Edmond Chiropractors: Decompressing your nerves

When you have pain it travels through your nerves to your spinal cord and eventually the signal is sent to your brain. If you have a pinched nerve, it can begin to send you pain signals as a warning that something just isn’t right. You should never ignore those messages, because having a pinched nerve for too long can cause long-lasting problems. Releasing pinched nerves can be as simple as visiting one of our certified Edmond chiropractors for an adjustment.

A pinched nerve is caused by your nerve(s) being trapped, pressed or compressed (you may hear any one of these words used to describe it) between a ligament, tendon or even your bones. Sometimes the nerves work themselves out, but if they do not “fix” themselves and you leave them for a long period of time you could be allowing other issues to arise. For example, fluid may build up around the compressed nerve and swelling can occur. In addition, the function of the nerve could be disrupted.

You’d be really surprised how much better you can feel after a great spinal adjustment by one of our Edmond chiropractors, but what if you don’t realize you have a pinched nerve? It has happened in the past when Edmond chiropractors have seen patients who never knew their nerves were being compressed. Sometimes, patients have visited the Edmond chiropractors fearing the worst has happened to them, such as; early signs of arthritis forming. A common pinched nerve is in the neck or shoulders area and if you constantly feel weak throughout the arms, elbows or wrists, it could be a result of this pinched nerve.

Never let a pinched nerve take away your ability to live a pain-free life! For more information about our Edmond chiropractors read here or call us at 405-285-7325 to schedule an appointment so we can get to decompressing your nerves.

Edmond Chiropractors Talk About Headaches

Headache Relief & Edmond Chiropractors

The American Chiropractic Association has provided data revealing that nine out of ten Americans suffer from headaches. Our Edmond chiropractors have seen multiple patients that have suffered from chronic headaches or even just headaches that occur on a seldom basis. Headaches just feel like such a pain. More specifically, they can be in any region of the head and sometimes on only one side of the head.

A headache may be a sharp pain, a throbbing sensation or a dull ache. Sometimes patients tell our Edmond chiropractors that their headaches can seem to come on slowly and other times they are suddenly there. Here’s the interesting part: Although it may feel like it, a headache is not actually a pain in your brain. It’s actually the brain’s way to tell you when other parts of your body hurt, but it can’t feel pain by itself.

The truth is that most headaches happen in the nerves, blood vessels, and muscles that cover a person’s head and neck. Our Edmond chiropractors have seen patients who have headaches that may last less than an hour or some that have lasted for several days. Just like with any pain, the common “quick fix” for most Americans is to grab the bottle of Aspirin or other pain relief medication.

The problem with taking medication like that to cover up your problem is that the headaches will just come back and eventually one or two pills doesn’t do the trick anymore. Before you know it, you may be seeing yourself take an increased dosage of pain medication. Want to know a better way? Often times, patients feel instant relief just from getting a spinal adjustment from one of our Edmond chiropractors.

Our Edmond chiropractors love to see people walk away with a feeling of improved well-being. If you could stop having ongoing headaches, would you do it? If you would like to know more or want to schedule your appointment please give us a call @ 405-285-7325.
