Edmond Chiropractor lays out some foods that help promote good bone health.
We can’t stop our bodies from aging, but we can keep them in good working order. One of the best way to do that is through nutrition and Edmond Chiropractor has some good foods you can eat to help support bone health. When talking about foods that support bone health, we want to focus on 2 nutrients: Calcium and Vitamin D. Calcium, as we all know, supports bone and teeth health but Vitamin D is also important because it promotes the absorption of Calcium.
Yogurt: A Key nutrient to supporting bone health is Vitamin D. Most people get Vitamin D through sunlight, but yogurt is also packed with Calcium and Vitamin D. It should be noted that while Greek yogurt does contain protein, it very rarely contains significant amounts of calcium or vitamin D.
Eggs: One of the easiest ways to start your day with a jolt of Vitamin D. But keep in mind, the vitamin D is in the yolk so just eating the egg white won’t suffice.
Spinach: Don’t have a taste for dairy? Spinach is a great, green way to get your Vitamin. Just one cup of cooked, green spinach will provide 25% of your daily calcium. Plus Vitamin A, Fiber, and Iron.
Salmon: Salmon is usually known for it’s heart healthy Omega-3 fatty acids, but a 3-ounce sockeye steak contains more than 100% of your daily Vitamin D needs.
Collard Greens: Much like spinach, one cup of cooked collards contains 25% of your daily calcium. In addition, it easily blends with your favorite foods.
Cheese: Most cheese contains most of the calcium you’ll need for the day. 1.5 ounces is all you really need to meet your calcium requirements. However, most cheese does nothing to help your vitamin D intake, meaning you’ll have to get it elsewhere, Cheese and Salmon anyone?
