Shoes- Edmond Chiropractor

Edmond Chiropractor: Shoes and alignment

Edmond Chiropractor: One tip to maintain alignment

It’s getting warmer, and that means people are getting close to ditching those tennis shoes and putting on some sandals or flip flops. We’ve talked about how flip flops can create pain in you feet, legs, hips, and back. We’re not going to focus on flip flops this time though, because what we call the “flip flop trot” isn’t the only bad shoe etiquette that can cause you ongoing pain. Today, the Edmond chiropractor explains why the shoes you wear matter.

Sometimes it’s not hard to see what shoes will cause you pain. One look at them is all you need to know putting those on will end in a world of hurt. Other types of shoes may surprise you though! Let’s take a look at why you may need to increase your visits to the Edmond chiropractor based on the decision to wear two different types of shoes.

1.) High Heels: High heels are one of those obvious pain shoes we mentioned before. You can tell just by looking at a pair of heels that they are going to lead to all kinds of pain, but not just in your feet. In simple terms, they throw off your alignment by changing your center of gravity. This creates extra stress and strain on your lower back. If you need to wear heels, the lower the better.

2.)Ballet Flats: Like flip flops these flat, slip on shoes don’t offer any kind of support whatsoever. This lack of support can lead to stress and strain on joints. In addition, if the shoes don’t fit properly it can cause your tendons to tighten up as a result of you straining to keep your shoes on when you walk! If the shoes are too tight they will cause pain in your toes which can surge up into your knees, hips, and lower back!

You may not want to hear it, but tennis shoes really are the best bet. Insoles or inserts can also be helpful and lend additional support. We love it when you visit the Edmond Chiropractor and we love treating you for your feet, hip, and back pain we also care about you as a person. Take care of those feet and see in a difference in your pain levels. Enjoy the spring and summer!

Edmond Chiropractor: How Athletes benefit from Chiropractic care Pt. 2

Edmond Chiropractor: More reasons an athlete should seek regular chiropractic care

The Edmond chiropractor is back with a few more reasons why athletes should consider seeing a chiropractor regularly. Previously, we’ve gone over how seeing a chiropractor can reduce pain from regular play, keep you in your top performing shape, and undo much of the wear and tear from regular play. But there are also a few more reasons to consider, especially in regards to injury rehabilitation and treatment.

Non-Invasive/Drug free treatment: Small injuries are common in sports, especially sports like football and rugby were full contact happens often. If your looking for a drug-free, non-invasive way to treat many of these injuries chiropractors may have a solutions. There are many procedures a chiropractor can perform that are non-invasive and require no drugs. Some of these include electrical stimulation to help relieve tension towards the surface of the muscle. Active release techniques combine massage and stretching with movement to help relieve tension and pain in affected joints while also restoring range of motion. Functional dry needling focuses on stimulating deep trigger points to help release tension built up in muscles and keep them relaxed. Finally, they’re is the Graston Technique that can help break down scar tissue through the use of stainless steel tools.

Other injuries: It’s not just skeletal and nerve pain and injuries that a chiropractor can help treat. Shoulder injuries can also be effectively managed by proper chiropractic care, reducing pain in the shoulders. Headaches originating in the neck can also be alleviated by a spinal adjustment from a trained chiropractor. Ankle sprains can also be treated by chiropractors, resulting in the restoration of the range of motion and pain relief.

Edmond Chiropractor: How Athletes benefit from Chiropractic care

Edmond Chiropractor: Why athletes should visit the Chiropractor

Sports are great. They can teach kids about hard work and working with a team, they can help keep us in shape and they can build self-confidence. But sports can also take a toll on our bodies. From normal wear and tear to serious injuries, pushing our bodies to the extremes of activity so often can lead to many problems in every day life. Here’s how visiting the Edmond Chiropractor can help.

Undo normal wear and tear: It doesn’t matter what sport you play, all of them will involve some level of wear and tear on your body that’s just part of it. You shouldn’t let that stop you from letting you play them though as the benefits are worth it. And much of this wear can be undone with regular chiropractic care. Whenever the body, especially the spine, become out of line it can cause areas of irritation and make you less able to perform.  Regular alignments and adjustments from a licensed chiropractor can reduce much of this irritation and help improve overall performance by keeping the body in it’s best shape.

Injury Prevention: A chiropractor can work with you to find the weak points in your skeleton and nervous system and help you prevent potential injuries. A good chiropractor will treat your whole body, not just the spine and back. Again, this can also help improve performance by keeping the body in it’s best shape possible. Injury prevention is key to keeping you healthy as you push your body to the limit as an athlete.

Decrease overall pain: As has been mentioned before but it bears repeating. Regular chiropractic care can help keep the pain that comes from regular sports play at bay. Working out soreness and keeping the nervous system and skeleton aligned and working.

Edmond Chiropractor: Is is ok to visit the Chiropractor while Pregnant?

Edmond Chiropractor: Safe and actually recommened

Many women enjoy having regular adjustments from our Edmond Chiropractor’s. However, many women get nervous about continuing these treatments while pregnant for fear of hurting the baby. We understand this concern that alot of expecting mothers have and that’s why we’ve chosen to talk about whether it’s ok to visit the Chiropractor while pregnant. So, is it safe to visit a chiropractor when your pregnancy?

The truth is: Chiropractic care can help relieve stress and pain. Adjustments also help realign bones and nerves. All of these actions combine to promote a healthy body. It might sound counter-intuitive, but there’s actually some pretty good reasons why you should visit the chiropractor while pregnant.

Whenever you’re pregnant, the pelvic region has a tendency to become misaligned because of the increased back curve and the protruding abdomen. When all this happens, it can actually reduce the amount of space your developing baby has and can cause the mother pain. These and other complications can have an impact on the mother’s ability to have a healthy, natural birth.

That being said, it’s safe to say that there are no known indications of harm to pregnant women when they go to the chiropractic care. In fact, studies show the opposite. The amount of force used when performing these adjustments is minimal and our Edmond Chiropractors will always make sure you feel  at ease before continuing with any adjustments. When working with pregnant women, tables may be used to adjust for a pregnant women’s body and our techniques are designed to avoid unneeded pressure on the abdominal area.

Our Edmond chiropractor cares enough to tell you the truth about your health. You deserve to be treated with the best care possible to that you can give your body and your unborn child the best care possible.

Edmond Chiropractors: Relieving headaches

Edmond Chiropractors talks about relieving headaches

According to the American Chiropractic Association, nine out of ten Americans suffer from headaches. Here with the Edmond Chiropractors we’ve seen multiple patients that have suffered from Chronic or very common headaches. Headaches feel like pain, dull or sharp. Specifically, they can be in any region of the head on one or both sides.

Like we said, a headache pain can take many forms. The pain can be sharp or dull, throbbing or constant. We’ve had patients say the headaches can seem to come on slowly while other times it can come all at once. Here’s the thing though, a headache is not actually about pain in your brain. Rather, it’s your brain’s way to tell you another part of your body hurts, a part that can’t feel pain itself. This pain manifests in your brain.

In truth, most headaches occur in the nerves, muscles, and blood vessels that cover most of your head and neck. Our Edmond Chiropractors have seen patients who say their headaches last for several hours while others have said they could last for several days. Like most pain, the go-to “quick fix” for most is to reach for a bottle of aspirin or some other pain relief medication.

The thing about trying to cover up this pain with medication is that your headaches will eventually just come back because you’re not treating the causes of the pain. Eventually, one or two pills won’t take care the pain anymore. Eventually, you may find yourself taking more and more medication to help keep the pain at bay. What if there was a better way? Often times, our patients feel instant relief from just getting a spinal adjustment by our Edmond Chiropractors.

Our Edmond chiropractors love to see people walk away with a feeling of improved well-being. If you could stop having ongoing headaches, would you do it? If you would like to know more or want to schedule your appointment please give us a call @ 405-285-7325.

Repercussions of living in daily pain- Edmond chiropractor- part 2

Edmond Chiropractor Reveals Repercussions Of Living In Daily Pain: Part 2

Edmond Chiropractor: The Cognitive & Psychological Impact Of Pain

As our Edmond chiropractor’s blog article discussed earlier this month (part one here) about 100 million Americans suffer from pain every single day of their lives. In fact, there are so many reported cases that chronic pain has now become the number one reason for long-term disability in the United States. In part one of this series we discussed some negative cognitive side effects of living in daily pain. Today, our Edmond chiropractor would like to share with our readers about the psychological repercussions, as well.

Negative Psychological Side Effects Of Daily Pain

  • Developing Depression: Having something wrong with your body and living with the pain each day can take a mental toll. Just the idea of facing the pain on a daily basis can be enough for some people to feel discouraged, sad, hopeless, and disinterested in general life. While depression is treatable, it’s likely to stick around in about 17% of people for life, especially if they don’t do anything to correct the issue.
  • Experiencing Anxiety: Constant pain can also cause general anxiety problems to occur. Often people think depression and anxiety are the same, but they are actually different despite the fact that many daily pain sufferers will sometimes experience similar symptoms (or develop both problems). The key issues of anxiety include feelings of nervousness, restlessness, a sense of impending danger, and having increased breath and heart rate.
  • Becoming Isolated: A healthy support system for anyone is ideal; unfortunately, for those with chronic pain a breakdown of relationships may occur. Many people in daily pain live alone, because either they feel that outsiders are judging them by saying they’re “faking it” or this is, sadly, actually the case. Sometimes, it’s the pain sufferer themselves who choose to be alone due to the mental frustration of dealing with daily pain.

Do any of these psychological concerns seem like anything you’re going through due to daily pain? Whether your pain is causing you cognitive impairment or psychological issues, our Edmond chiropractor doesn’t feel it’s worth it for you to live this way. If you find yourself in any of these situations, please don’t hesitate to seek help!

In many situations, chiropractic care can correct pain via adjustments to the spine which by default is associated with the nervous system. If you’d like to seek assistance via chiropractic care, please feel free to give our Edmond chiropractor a try.

Workspace- Library- Edmond chiropractor

Edmond Chiropractor Provides Workspace Improvement Tips For Spinal Health

Edmond Chiropractor: Improved Workspace = Improved You!

It’s officially “back-to-school” time and that means more time sitting at a desk for many students. In the previous post our Edmond chiropractor talked about how poor posture can have some negative side effects. Today, we’re following that up with ways that you can improve your workspace whether that be at home, in the library, or wherever you find yourself studying or sitting for long periods of time.

Remember, posture is important for a healthy spine and a healthy body overall so here are some tips from our Edmond chiropractor:

1.) Choose The Right Chair: Choosing the right chair to maintain proper posture will allow you to sit without pain. A lot of the chairs are adjustable to accommodate the height difference for many types of people. Of course, sitting up straight with your spine to the back of the chair is important, but also think about how sitting too low or too high can impact your arms and wrist. If your wrists are bent awkwardly for too long it can increase risks of carpal tunnel. Furthermore, elbows should sit comfortably along the sides of your body and your shoulders should be relaxed.

2.) Adjust The Computer Screen: If you’re working at a computer station, most of the time you’ll have the ability to raise or lower the screen to meet your eye level. This is the optimal viewing level to avoid tilting your head and neck too far downward while completing tasks. If you have a laptop computer, try elevating the screen by placing a stack on books under it or consider purchasing a laptop stand.

3.) Take Short Breaks Often: Allow yourself the space and time to be able to get up and stretch in between cram sessions or projects. As time ticks by it’s possible to forget about your posture and inadvertently start slouching. Getting up occasionally will prevent you from becoming too stiff or from sitting in an incorrect position for too long. Try walking around for just a minute (even if it’s just a bathroom break or a drink break), shaking and stretching your limbs, squeezing your shoulder blades back and forth to loosen up, and taking deep breaths.

Of course, our Edmond chiropractor hopes that these 3 tips will help you improve your workspace and improve your spinal health!

As always, our Edmond chiropractor is also available to help you maintain proper posture through regular spinal adjustments. If you’d like to make an appointment with our Edmond chiropractor, please give us a call at 405-285-7325.

Couple Looking At Pregnancy Test- Fertility Issues- Edmond Chiropractor

Edmond Chiropractor Discusses Links Between The Nervous System And Fertility

Edmond Chiropractor Helps Restore Normal Nerve Function

There are many reasons that a couple may face fertility issues and while some of them may be far beyond control, most of the top reasons have something to do with years of one not taking care of the body properly. Many people underestimate the nervous system and how much it helps to control and coordinate various functions in the body, including reproductive organs. Often times, our Edmond chiropractor can help simply by performing adjustments to the body which, in turn, work to start restoring balance to the nervous system. This can spark the nerves to begin communicating once again.

You may be thinking about the multitude of medications and procedures which are to assist women with being able to conceive. Likewise, there are fertility drugs for men, as well. Did you know; however, that the side effects often include nausea, headache, vision changes, dizziness, and more? Think about what those drugs do to your body in the long-term. Not only that, but there is a high cost (usually not covered by insurance) associated with these treatments.

Furthermore, things like In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) don’t always work. Statistics state that the majority of women have a per-cycle success rate of only 20-35% and this means several cycles often have to be completed. On the flip side, for men, some studies show that Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI- where they take a male sperm and inject it into a female egg) might increase the risk for birth defects.

While nothing outside of the natural order of things is a 100% guarantee, our Edmond chiropractor would like to offer the safer alternative of trying chiropractic adjustments, first. Our Edmond chiropractor, through a series of cost effective adjustments, can help to restore your normal nerve function which can allow your body to naturally heal itself.

Let it be known that our Edmond chiropractor is here to help both men and women as the nerve roots which make the reproductive organs function (for both men and women) are found near the base of the spine, in the lower lumbar region.

If you would like to give our Edmond chiropractor a try, please feel free to give us a call at 405-285-7325 to make an appointment.

Edmond Chiropractor- TMJ Disorders

Straightening Out TMJ Disorders By Visiting An Edmond Chiropractor

Edmond Chiropractor: Correcting Misalignments In The Jaw And Neck

The temporomandibular joint, also known simply as TMJ, connects your jawbone to your skull like a sliding hinge. There is one joint on each side of your jaw. Sometimes, the TMJ can become misaligned on one side which refers to a TMJ disorder. This type of disorder tends to cause pain in your jaw joint and in the muscles that control your jaw movement. It’s common for people who experience TMJ disorders to think they need assistance from a surgeon, an oral surgeon, or a dentist, but truthfully our Edmond chiropractor can often help with this problem!

Sometimes, it can be difficult for patients of our Edmond chiropractor to determine if the pain they’re feeling truly is a problem with TMJ before they decide to come visit us. To help you decide if you might be experiencing some symptoms of TMJ, here’s a few questions to ask yourself:

  • Do you feel facial pain when opening your mouth?
  • Does your jaw make a popping noise when your mouth is stretched open (like when you yawn)?
  • Do you feel pain while chewing food?
  • Does your joint lock, making it difficult to open or close your mouth?
  • Do you feel an aching pain in or around your ear?
  • Do you feel as though your jaw hinges incorrectly at times?

If you answered yes to any of the above questions then there is a chance you have a TMJ disorder. The pain caused by TMJ disorders often corresponds with the upper neck and jaw being in misalignment, but that is generally a very easy fix for our Edmond chiropractor without the use of drugs or surgery of any kind. With adjustments to correct the alignment, the pressure is relieved from the nerve and jaw pain ceases.

That’s why our team has come up with some spring break safety tips to share with you, today.

  • Car accidents are one of the main causes of spinal misalignment, some of which can be very painful. We suggest that you take extra caution while driving and keep a watchful eye out for children playing near the street.
  • Be careful while being active outdoors. Make sure you follow all safety rules and wear appropriate safety gear for any extreme sports or activities (bungee jumping, hiking, climbing, etc) to avoid injury.
  •  Watch your alcohol intake to prevent impairing your mind and body. We’re not saying don’t do it, because it’s probably likely to happen, but we are reminding people to limit their drinks for safety reasons as drinking too much can cause you to have accidents that cause harm to yourself and possibly others.
