Insomnia Caused By Spinal Misalignment- Edmond Chiropractor

Edmond Chiropractor Explains Insomnia Caused By Spinal Misalignment

Edmond Chiropractor: Helping You Get Back To Sleep

According to some data provided by the National Upper Cervical Chiropractic Research Foundation, there is a possible connection between someone having a problem with Brain Stem Subluxation (a problem in the upper neck) and that person having insomnia. With that being said, even those who do sleep, but feel unrested or can’t turn their mind off could have a potential issue. Our Edmond chiropractor would like to talk to you if you feel like sleep or rest is difficult to obtain for you.

More of the research points to how the nerve cells in the brainstem, or reticular formation, activate portions of your brain that produce wakefulness and sleepiness. As even our Edmond chiropractor could tell you, since the signals fire to and from the brain,  it’s no wonder that if the upper neck is not fully straight, or is misaligned, that insomnia could occur.

You may wonder how this sort of thing can happen to you. The truth is that small misalignments of the spine can happen from every day work or minor exercise. Bigger issues can happen as a result of accidents which cause injuries to the spinal area. Postural changes from one part of the body can often impact other areas as people tend to adjust accordingly to accommodate for the pain as they walk around during the day.

Imagine not sleeping well and then not being able to function properly all day as a result. Sleep is vital, especially since most people spend an average of 1/3 of their life sleeping. Our Edmond chiropractor stresses that a decent rest is important for being able to navigate through work loads, family time, and having an abundant personal life. If you’re not sleeping due to a possible spinal misalignment just know that the vicious cycle can begin to cause other problems with someone’s overall health.

If you’re suffering from lack of sleep or have problems with getting a decent rest when sleeping, you may just need a good adjustment! Feel free to contact our Edmond chiropractor so that we can help you get back to sleep. Our Edmond chiropractor, Hooper Chiropractic, can be reached by calling 405-285-7325.

Daylight Savings Time- Edmond Chiropractor

Edmond Chiropractor Reports Daylight Savings Time Has Health Impacts

Edmond Chiropractor Warns That Shifting Sleep Patterns Causes Issues

Sometimes, patients will often tell our Edmond chiropractor that daylight savings time makes them feel groggy. While many people look forward to springtime, it’s not always pleasant to turn the clock forward one hour. Of course, unpleasantness may not be the only factor to deal with as documented studies would suggest that shifting sleep patterns can have negative impacts on your health.

According to historical data, daylight savings time was introduced in the United States in 1918, repealed by most states, and then brought back again by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1942. Today, it is still used to allow people the opportunity to enjoy more time outside, in the light, during spring and summer months.

There’s no doubt that “springing forward” hurts more than “falling back” an hour, but that loss of one hour could make you feel more than just a little grumpy. Our Edmond chiropractor looked at a few studies regarding the matter.

Researchers from the University of Alabama-Birmingham conducted a study in 2012 about daylight savings time. They found that the Monday and Tuesday following daylight savings time in the spring have been associated with a 10% increase in heart attacks.

In 2016, another study was conducted in Finland. The results showed that the stroke rate increased by 8% within two days after daylight savings time began.

The research compared stroke rates between more than 3,000 people who were hospitalized the week after daylight savings time began and stroke rates from more than 11,000 people who were hospitalized two weeks prior to or after the week of transition. Not only did the research indicate a higher number of strokes occurred after daylight savings time, but it also found that cancer patients were 25% more likely to have a stroke just after the time change.

The overall belief, by experts, is that these medical issues most likely happened as a result of people severely messing up their sleep patterns. To avoid complications it is suggested that you ease yourself into the new sleeping routine by gradually shifting over the next few weeks. Doing so is supposed to help reset your internal clock so that you won’t be at an increased risk for medical problems.

Additionally, it has been reported by many patients that regular chiropractic care has helped them fall and stay asleep. Our Edmond chiropractor can align your spine properly. In turn, this can allow your body to heal, prevent injuries, and promote relaxation in the body.

Edmond Chiropractor Can Help With Sleep Apnea

Rest Easier With Our Edmond Chiropractor

Have you ever slept in the same room with someone who has sleep apnea? They may not even realize they have it, but you would certainly notice if you ever listened to this person sleeping. The sound is very much as if the sleeping person is holding their breath frequently and then having to gasp for air. This can certainly seem scary. Did you know that our Edmond chiropractor may be able to help with sleep apnea?

This chronic condition has three basic types; mixed, central, and obstructive. The most common type of sleep apnea is the obstructive type due to the throat tissue or tonsils blocking the airway. If a person has sleep apnea and doesn’t know it, there are some other symptoms one can keep an eye out for and our Edmond chiropractor is here to share these signs with you, today.

Here are some of the most common symptoms of sleep apnea besides gasping for air in the middle of the night:

  • Insomnia or interrupted sleep
  • Reduced libido
  • Forgetfulness
  • Headaches in the morning
  • Fatigue during the day
  • Loud snoring
  • Sore throat when waking up
  • Dry throat when waking up

Of course, there are traditional medical treatments for sleep apnea, but as we stated earlier our Edmond chiropractor can help through spinal adjustments and also via soft tissue massages to help relax your muscles and to promote proper breathing.

This treatment from our Edmond chiropractor is capable of working as adjustments may boost your immune system, get your body back to its proper alignment, and retrain your respiration habits. Like adjustments, massages also help calm the body and relieves stress from the body, but rather than working on bones and joints the pressure is released from the muscles.

If you feel that you might have sleep apnea, please feel free to give our Edmond chiropractor a call at 405-285-7325 to make an appointment.
