Can ADHD Be Helped By Our Edmond Chiropractor?

Edmond Chiropractor Talks About ADHD

By now you’ve probably heard about or know someone who has been told they have Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). This behavioral disorder is characterized by inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. What you may not know is that research suggests there are several causes or reasons that ADHD can occur in children and adults. One of those reasons correlates to head or neck trauma which may actually be treatable with regular visits to our Edmond chiropractor.

In fact, studies show that diagnosis of a previously unknown ADHD condition often follows a traumatic head injury. This injury could have occurred before, during birth, or after birth, particularly if the injury caused damage to the frontal lobes. There also seems to be a direct correlation between the severity of the brain injury and the extent of the ADHD symptoms (i.e., there are far worse ADHD symptoms with a severe brain injury).

When an individual’s upper neck is injured, a bundle of nerves (the superior cervical ganglion) may be irritated. In the case of ADHD, this nerve dysfunction usually occurs in the brain stem, which is located at the base of the brain and the very top of the spine. Since every nerve in the body passes through the brain stem on its way down through the spinal cord doesn’t it make sense that with precise adjustments to the spine that this misalignment would be corrected?

All our Edmond chiropractor does is make use of the knowledge to locate troublesome areas, apply the appropriate amount of pressure to the area, and allow the body to do the rest. That’s pretty amazing, right? Our Edmond chiropractor loves the science behind aiding the body to heal itself.

If you feel as though head or neck trauma could be the cause of your ADHD or that of someone you know, please feel free to give our Edmond chiropractor a call for an adjustment!

Edmond Chiropractor Offering Advice On Coconut Water

Benefits Of Real Coconut Water Discussed By Edmond Chiropractor

As you may have realized, coconut water has become quite popular. While this low calorie water is being dubbed “mother nature’s sports drink” it’s important to understand that not every coconut water is created equal. Our Edmond chiropractor is here to offer some friendly advice about this healthy craze.

First, we all should know by now that anything that comes from a pre-packaged container isn’t ever going to be as naturally beneficial to your body as the real deal. Thus, if you can help it, the first suggestion our Edmond chiropractor would have to make is that you buy real coconuts. Yes, it can be a pain to crack them open, but with practice it can be done easily and the payoff is worth it! Here’s a video to show you how to open a coconut.

Real coconut water is so hydrating that in WWII it was used intravenously to hydrate soldiers, because coconut water contains a unique combination of B vitamins, vitamin C, micronutrients, and phytohormones that are exceptionally beneficial to health.

In some countries they still do use it intravenously as a means to replace lost minerals and electrolytes in those who have become dehydrated. Natural coconut water matches more closely to the PH levels of the body than any sports drinks or soda which are very acidic. As you can imagine, if you’ve been working up a good sweat, replenishing these minerals is a very good thing.

If you cannot purchase fresh coconuts our Edmond chiropractor will caution you to look at the labels of the cans or bottles of coconut water you wish to purchase. Keep in mind that some companies add in extra sugar or other “fluff” ingredients which make the drink less healthy.

Curious about which packaged brands are full of junk and which ones aren’t? Our Edmond chiropractor found this link for a blogger who did her homework. She goes into detail about which brands of coconut water she would suggest avoiding, the reasons why, and also provides a list of those she prefers to buy and why.

Our Edmond chiropractor hopes this information helps you make the best decision about drinking the healthiest coconut water. Good luck with your coconut water adventures!

Edmond Chiropractor- TMJ Disorders

Straightening Out TMJ Disorders By Visiting An Edmond Chiropractor

Edmond Chiropractor: Correcting Misalignments In The Jaw And Neck

The temporomandibular joint, also known simply as TMJ, connects your jawbone to your skull like a sliding hinge. There is one joint on each side of your jaw. Sometimes, the TMJ can become misaligned on one side which refers to a TMJ disorder. This type of disorder tends to cause pain in your jaw joint and in the muscles that control your jaw movement. It’s common for people who experience TMJ disorders to think they need assistance from a surgeon, an oral surgeon, or a dentist, but truthfully our Edmond chiropractor can often help with this problem!

Sometimes, it can be difficult for patients of our Edmond chiropractor to determine if the pain they’re feeling truly is a problem with TMJ before they decide to come visit us. To help you decide if you might be experiencing some symptoms of TMJ, here’s a few questions to ask yourself:

  • Do you feel facial pain when opening your mouth?
  • Does your jaw make a popping noise when your mouth is stretched open (like when you yawn)?
  • Do you feel pain while chewing food?
  • Does your joint lock, making it difficult to open or close your mouth?
  • Do you feel an aching pain in or around your ear?
  • Do you feel as though your jaw hinges incorrectly at times?

If you answered yes to any of the above questions then there is a chance you have a TMJ disorder. The pain caused by TMJ disorders often corresponds with the upper neck and jaw being in misalignment, but that is generally a very easy fix for our Edmond chiropractor without the use of drugs or surgery of any kind. With adjustments to correct the alignment, the pressure is relieved from the nerve and jaw pain ceases.

Bulging Disc- Edmond chiropractor

Edmond Chiropractor Helps Decompress Bulging Discs

Edmond Chiropractor & Spinal Decompression Therapy

A very common problem among many Americans are various types of disc problems. One of those common types of problems is called a bulging disc, or a disc protrusion. Sometimes, people have this problem without realizing it as the area doesn’t always show symptoms. Those that do feel pain do so when the bulging area begins pressing against a nearby nerve. This is when our Edmond chiropractor can help!

Symptoms of a pinched nerve caused by a bulging disc can be recognized by sending pain to travel to the hips, buttocks, legs, and feet. In the cervical spine, pain can emit from the neck, down to the arm and to the fingers. According to our Edmond chiropractor’s research, studies indicate that 90% of bulging discs occur in the lower back, or lumbar area, of the spine. Under certain circumstances even sciatic nerve pain can be a result of a bulging disc.

The many reasons bulging discs can occur vary, but it could be caused by any of the following:

  • a person simply aging
  • trying to exercise too strenuously
  • someone having poor posture
  • being overweight

For treatment of disc problems, our Edmond chiropractor has a goal to equalize pressure on the vertebras and decompress the disc to take pressure off of the nerve. This can be done through a series of carefully conducted spinal adjustments. Our Edmond chiropractor would gently locate the problem area and apply even pressure to the spine so that it can be moved back into proper alignment. You can also help maintain the adjustments by protecting your back when lifting heavy objects, maintaining good posture, maintaining a healthy weight, and exercising with awareness of what your body can handle, yet working towards strengthening core muscles to support your body.

If you care about the health of your spine or you think you have a bulging disc problem, let us help decompress your spine. You can click here to make an appointment with our Edmond chiropractor!

Daylight Savings Time- Edmond Chiropractor

Edmond Chiropractor Reports Daylight Savings Time Has Health Impacts

Edmond Chiropractor Warns That Shifting Sleep Patterns Causes Issues

Sometimes, patients will often tell our Edmond chiropractor that daylight savings time makes them feel groggy. While many people look forward to springtime, it’s not always pleasant to turn the clock forward one hour. Of course, unpleasantness may not be the only factor to deal with as documented studies would suggest that shifting sleep patterns can have negative impacts on your health.

According to historical data, daylight savings time was introduced in the United States in 1918, repealed by most states, and then brought back again by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1942. Today, it is still used to allow people the opportunity to enjoy more time outside, in the light, during spring and summer months.

There’s no doubt that “springing forward” hurts more than “falling back” an hour, but that loss of one hour could make you feel more than just a little grumpy. Our Edmond chiropractor looked at a few studies regarding the matter.

Researchers from the University of Alabama-Birmingham conducted a study in 2012 about daylight savings time. They found that the Monday and Tuesday following daylight savings time in the spring have been associated with a 10% increase in heart attacks.

In 2016, another study was conducted in Finland. The results showed that the stroke rate increased by 8% within two days after daylight savings time began.

The research compared stroke rates between more than 3,000 people who were hospitalized the week after daylight savings time began and stroke rates from more than 11,000 people who were hospitalized two weeks prior to or after the week of transition. Not only did the research indicate a higher number of strokes occurred after daylight savings time, but it also found that cancer patients were 25% more likely to have a stroke just after the time change.

The overall belief, by experts, is that these medical issues most likely happened as a result of people severely messing up their sleep patterns. To avoid complications it is suggested that you ease yourself into the new sleeping routine by gradually shifting over the next few weeks. Doing so is supposed to help reset your internal clock so that you won’t be at an increased risk for medical problems.

Additionally, it has been reported by many patients that regular chiropractic care has helped them fall and stay asleep. Our Edmond chiropractor can align your spine properly. In turn, this can allow your body to heal, prevent injuries, and promote relaxation in the body.

Should you feel off balance, let our Edmond chiropractor help. You can make an appointment with our Edmond chiropractor by clicking here.

We wish you good luck with the time change coming up and we hope that you get plenty of rest!

Edmond Chiropractor Helping With Bursitis Symptoms

Edmond Chiropractor: Decreasing Pain

Have you ever visited our Edmond chiropractor for bursitis? Perhaps, you haven’t ever heard of this condition or you don’t even know you have it! First, the most common symptom is pain. More specifically, bursitis is a condition usually caused by the overuse or sudden impact of the bursa or a sac filled with lubricating fluid located between tissues such as bones, muscles, tendons, and skin.

Poor posture, misaligned joints, tight muscles, abnormal foot biomechanics, the age of tendons, and irritated nerves all play their role in the bursitis condition. Some examples of activities that cause bursitis include, but are not limited to:

  • Gardening
  • Raking
  • Carpentry
  • Shoveling
  • Painting
  • Scrubbing
  • Tennis
  • Golf
  • Skiing
  • Throwing
  • Pitching

The pain most people feel is usually located in areas like elbows, shoulders, hips, knees, and the achilles tendon. Luckily, none of these problems are completely untreatable and our Edmond chiropractor can offer therapy that is very effective for this condition.

Our Edmond chiropractor is able to focus on very specific areas via various types of adjustments in order to target the source of your pain and relieve it. By using strategic hand placements our Edmond chiropractor can perform manual adjustments of your spine and joints. This is a controlled, sudden force that seeks to improve your range and quality of motion.

Many patients have shared that they felt relief, a decrease in inflammation, and faster healing after just one visit! Not every patient is lucky enough to see results after just one treatment, but we hope to make everyone feel better than when they walked in the door.

If you have a habit of doing the same action repeatedly on a regular basis and you feel pain in any of the above mentioned areas, it’s possible that you have bursitis. If you’d like to know more about getting treatment for this pain, feel free to contact our Edmond chiropractor at 405-285-7325.

Edmond Chiropractor Can Help With Sleep Apnea

Rest Easier With Our Edmond Chiropractor

Have you ever slept in the same room with someone who has sleep apnea? They may not even realize they have it, but you would certainly notice if you ever listened to this person sleeping. The sound is very much as if the sleeping person is holding their breath frequently and then having to gasp for air. This can certainly seem scary. Did you know that our Edmond chiropractor may be able to help with sleep apnea?

This chronic condition has three basic types; mixed, central, and obstructive. The most common type of sleep apnea is the obstructive type due to the throat tissue or tonsils blocking the airway. If a person has sleep apnea and doesn’t know it, there are some other symptoms one can keep an eye out for and our Edmond chiropractor is here to share these signs with you, today.

Here are some of the most common symptoms of sleep apnea besides gasping for air in the middle of the night:

  • Insomnia or interrupted sleep
  • Reduced libido
  • Forgetfulness
  • Headaches in the morning
  • Fatigue during the day
  • Loud snoring
  • Sore throat when waking up
  • Dry throat when waking up

Of course, there are traditional medical treatments for sleep apnea, but as we stated earlier our Edmond chiropractor can help through spinal adjustments and also via soft tissue massages to help relax your muscles and to promote proper breathing.

This treatment from our Edmond chiropractor is capable of working as adjustments may boost your immune system, get your body back to its proper alignment, and retrain your respiration habits. Like adjustments, massages also help calm the body and relieves stress from the body, but rather than working on bones and joints the pressure is released from the muscles.

If you feel that you might have sleep apnea, please feel free to give our Edmond chiropractor a call at 405-285-7325 to make an appointment.

Edmond Chiropractor Reveals The Truth About Sit-Ups

Edmond Chiropractor: Saving You From Pain

Keeping with the theme of exercising in the new year, as we know many of you fine folks have planned to do for your New Year’s resolution, our Edmond chiropractor is here to discuss a few side effects of completing sit-ups. In the world of fitness sit-ups have been quite a controversial topic for quite some time. Some people say they’re they best thing for building core strength and other fitness experts are completely against the action. From a medical and a safety point of view, our Edmond chiropractor would suggest a few, safer alternatives for core strengthening.

Let’s take a look, first, at a few injuries that can be caused by doing sit-ups.

  • Sit-ups can cause force in the spine that can lead to disc bulge or disc herniation.
  • Sit-ups can cause Posterior Ulcers (basically blisters on your bottocks).
  • Sit-ups can work hip flexors and if they’re too tight or strong they’ll tug on the lower spine.

While sit-ups were once deemed to be the magical way to a slimmer waistline, safer alternatives have been emerging. Our Edmond chiropractor would recommend planks or leg lifts as two safer ways to achieve core strength without nearly as much injury risk. Of course, there is a proper way to do both of these exercises and we’re providing the details here.

The safest way to perform a plank:

Allow your weight to bear through the forearms and toes, with the body maintained in a horizontal position elevated above the ground. Easy modifications can be made to make it even easier on your pelvic floor. Kneeling forward and putting the weight on your knees rather than your toes is one way to reduce the pressure and while it does work the abs a little less it’s still a very good workout for beginners.

The safest way to perform leg lifts:

Lie on your back (preferably on an exercise mat) with your legs together and extended in front of you. Place your arms down beside your torso, palms facing down. Try to keep your lower back on the floor to prevent injury and slowly lift your legs toward the ceiling while keeping them straight. Stop when your feet are over your hips. Lower your legs back down and repeat until you’re unable to control the movement. If your lower back lifts off the floor it’s a good indication that you’re tired and may need to relax for a few minutes or stop until you’re ready to go again.

Our Edmond chiropractor hopes that these tips help some of you out there to exercise safely and prevent injury in the new year. If you do find yourself in need of chiropractic care or massage therapy we’re here to help! To book an appointment with either our Edmond chiropractor or our massage therapist, give us a call @ 405-285-7325.

pushups-edmond-chiropractor

Edmond Chiropractor Provides Information For Proper Push-ups

Edmond Chiropractor: Saving You From Lower Back Pain

One of the most popular “trouble spots” for men and women are their arms, chest, and triceps. Many men are self conscious about their upper body shape while many women are worried about the “pudge” that may form around the armpit region and their arms. Thus, these people tend to turn to push-ups as a primary way to exercise these troublesome areas, but be careful as bad form can lead to lower back pain. As the new year starts out with everyone aiming to get in shape, our Edmond chiropractor felt it would be a great time to provide some information on performing proper push-ups.

It sounds silly to hear our Edmond chiropractor say that as a side-effect of pushing yourself up improperly that you can cause stress on your spine, but it’s true. It is all in the way one positions themselves. For example, when you lower yourself down, do not let your hips sag as this is the most common mistake people make! Most often allowing the hips to dip too low is a result of having a weak core so it would be smart to focus on building up some core strength in the abs to help yourself prevent injury in the lower back (planks and leg lifts are a nice option).

Our Edmond chiropractor can adjust the spine and we do have massage therapists on staff to help with fatigued muscle pain, but injuring yourself beyond that is not worth the risk. To complete a proper push-up know that you should be creating a straight line with your body from your shoulders to your heels. You’re going to need to make use of your abs and quadriceps to keep yourself engaged in the proper form. As you lower down to the floor, it’s important to remember your straight line posture and push yourself back up in a steady motion. Don’t worry about pumping in the reps too quickly, just take it as slow as you need to go.

If you happen to get a little sore, that’s obviously normal and we’d love to help you recover faster. Our Edmond chiropractor would be happy to help you get adjusted or schedule you for a massage.

To book an appointment with either our Edmond chiropractor or our massage therapists, feel free to give us a call @ 405-285-7325.
