Edmond Chiropractor Talks About ADHD
By now you’ve probably heard about or know someone who has been told they have Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). This behavioral disorder is characterized by inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. What you may not know is that research suggests there are several causes or reasons that ADHD can occur in children and adults. One of those reasons correlates to head or neck trauma which may actually be treatable with regular visits to our Edmond chiropractor.
In fact, studies show that diagnosis of a previously unknown ADHD condition often follows a traumatic head injury. This injury could have occurred before, during birth, or after birth, particularly if the injury caused damage to the frontal lobes. There also seems to be a direct correlation between the severity of the brain injury and the extent of the ADHD symptoms (i.e., there are far worse ADHD symptoms with a severe brain injury).
When an individual’s upper neck is injured, a bundle of nerves (the superior cervical ganglion) may be irritated. In the case of ADHD, this nerve dysfunction usually occurs in the brain stem, which is located at the base of the brain and the very top of the spine. Since every nerve in the body passes through the brain stem on its way down through the spinal cord doesn’t it make sense that with precise adjustments to the spine that this misalignment would be corrected?
All our Edmond chiropractor does is make use of the knowledge to locate troublesome areas, apply the appropriate amount of pressure to the area, and allow the body to do the rest. That’s pretty amazing, right? Our Edmond chiropractor loves the science behind aiding the body to heal itself.
If you feel as though head or neck trauma could be the cause of your ADHD or that of someone you know, please feel free to give our Edmond chiropractor a call for an adjustment!
